What is the Alexander Technique ?
The Alexander Technique has been around for more than 100 years. it is named after its creator FM Alexander. He developed the technique to overcome his own chronic laryngitis and it was so sucessful for him that he went onto to train others in how to teach the technique.
It is important to note that it is not an exercise regime or a therapy.The Alexander Teachnique teacher teaches the student the skills to help them to overcome physical strain and stresses.
The Alexander Technique is a way of learning to move mindfully through life. The student takes charge of his own learning and healing process. It can be applied to sitting, lying down, standing, walking, and other daily activities. The technique looks at balance, posture and co-ordination while performing everyday actions.
The Alexander s a method of releasing unwanted muscular tension throughout your body which has accumulated over many years of stressful living. These excess tensions often starts in childhood and can give rise in later life to common ailments such as arthritis, neck and back pain, migraines, hypertension, sciatica, insomnia and even depression.
The Alexander Technique teaches the student how to relax tense muscles and learn new ways to move whilst performing everyday tasks. This results in new ways of walking, sitting etc that put less strain on the joints muscles and bones.
The main benefits are the release of muscle tension, improvement in posture and movement and the relief of persistent pain.
